Fighting Hunger Together: How Your Support Helps Feed Families in Need

Every day, millions of families across the United States struggle with food insecurity, unsure of where their next meal will come from. According to Feeding America, more than 34 million people in the U.S. including 9 million children, face hunger.

With rising costs of living, many hardworking individuals and families are forced to make impossible choices between paying for rent, utilities, or putting food on the table.

Now more than ever, families are turning to food assistance programs as economic challenges continue to push more people into food insecurity.

At Food Connect, we are dedicated to bridging this gap by delivering food donations to organizations that serve those in need. Through our partnerships with local food banks, local government and community partners, we ensure that families have access to nutritious, fresh meals.

Case Study: Philadelphia Schools

For example, in Philadelphia, we partnered with the City of Philadelphia Office of Children and Families, the Department of Public Health, and Sharing Excess to deliver fresh surplus produce to 14 Philadelphia Community Schools.

Since May, Food Connect Philadelphia delivered over 153,000 pounds of fresh surplus produce rescued by Sharing Excess, a dedicated local nonprofit tackling food waste. By intercepting this high-quality food at the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market, we prevented it from being wasted in landfills and instead redirected it to nourish our community.

“Food Connect has provided fresh produce to our Community Schools, making it easy for families to pick up healthy food while collecting their children,” said Laura Crandall, Director of Food Security Initiatives for the Philadelphia Office of Children and Families. “This partnership helps combat food insecurity, reduces waste, and meets families’ requests for more fresh options. Our school communities appreciate the fruits and vegetables, and our staff value the convenience of working with Food Connect.”

From coordinating seamless pickups to managing routing, logistics, and delivery, Food Connect ensures every pound reaches those in need. Through our streamlined operations and recipient feedback system, we amplify impact and share meaningful results with our partners, driving a collaborative effort to create a healthier, more sustainable future.

The Impact of Your Support

With the generosity of our donors and volunteers, since 2023, we have been able to:

・Deliver thousands of pounds of food to community organizations every month.

・Support schools, health providers and shelters that provide 5.5 million meals to families, seniors and individuals of all ages and communities facing hunger.

・Reduce food waste by rescuing 6.6 million pounds of surplus groceries and redistributing them to those in need.

But the fight against hunger is far from over. More than 1 in 8 households with children experience food insecurity, and the demand for assistance continues to grow. Right now, your support is more critical than ever. Your contributions can make a real difference in ensuring families have access to fresh, nutritious food.

How You Can Help

You can be a part of the solution in 2 impactful ways:

Donate: Every dollar helps provide meals for families in need. A contribution of just $10 can help provide up to 20 meals through our network of partners.

・Advocate: Spread the word about food insecurity in your community and encourage others to get involved.

Hunger is a solvable problem, and together, we can ensure that no one goes without a meal. Whether through financial contributions or simply sharing our mission, your support is invaluable in helping us build a brighter, healthier future, one delivery at a time.
